at the heart of walking

A walk to the White Chapel on Gellionen.
Leader: Pat Mindt

canal
Our walk starts along the bank of the canal towards Trebanos.

canal
A couple of our members have spotted something interesting in the water... a fish perhaps.

canal
At Trebanos we stop for a quick coffee break ...

canal
in a shady spot....

climbing hill
....before starting up the hill.

hilltop
It is quite a steep climb to the top.

chapel
We have reached the Chapel after a walk across the top of Gellionen Mountain.
Known locally as the White Chapel, it was first built in 1692 and was rebuilt in 1801.

wall plaque
A wall plaque tells us it was built as a place of worship for the use of a society of Protestant Dissenters.

inside chapel
As we looked around the outside of the chapel the Minister the Rev.Eirion Phillips
arrived and not only was he kind enough to let us inside the Chapel...

chapel history
but also give us brief history of the building and information about current services.
Gellionen is the oldest nonconformist chapel in the area.
