Working for Walkers
'Stepping Stones' - Short Walks.

All members of the Ramblers enjoy walking for differing reasons. To some it is a means of exercising, relieving the stress of modern living, some just enjoy being in the fresh air, seeing the views, an unknown part of the countryside, checking that footpaths are open, meeting up with friends. Whatever the reason, all the latest medical evidence is that 'Walking Is Good For You'! Apparently, regular daily exercise, even on small walks are more beneficial than a weekly steamy session in the gym! The Ramblers were therefore asked if we could be part of the 'Stepping Stones' initiative to encourage a general improvement to all members of society - especially those who perhaps did not consider themselves able to take part in a traditional programme of walks.

We have now included a series of walks of between 2 and 3 miles on mainly flat surfaces (or as flat as possible). These are aimed at a variety of individuals - the experienced Ramblers who maybe are not able to walk the 7-15 miles of the regular programme any more, but are still valuable to our organisation; people who have never been on organised walks at all before and are a little unsure of their capabilities; people who, perhaps through illness, are only able to do a few miles. The walks should cater for everyone - even the very fit, experienced Ramblers, who because of the pressure of their everyday lives can only squeeze in the shorter walk for a particular week.

At least two walks per month are included in the our Short Walks Summer Programme. Last year we included walks to Rhossili, Swansea Valley, Resolven, Swiss Valley and some were very successful and will be repeated.
